The term "Covolution"

Covolution was consciously coined from the idea of computationally coupled evolution. The term combines the prefix “co-” with the root of “(e)volution,” suggesting joint unfolding. The prefix is deliberately semantically loaded: it carries several reinforcing meanings, each describing a different dimension of the covolutionary process.

“Co-” as coupling: reciprocal interaction among informational entities and their Symvironments; co-evolution of horon and Symvironment; co-development of structure and function; and reciprocal causation across organizational levels.

“Co-” as computation: structured exploration of para-determined possibility spaces; generation and internal evaluation of alternatives; predictive regulation; and recursive modification of switching and generative architectures through feedback from persistence outcomes.

“Co-” as convergence: accumulation and compression of retained information; channeling of trajectories through attractors and constraints; and progressive concentration of accessible possibilities toward states that have proved or are predicted to be more persistent.

“Co-” as co-construction: horons do not merely adapt to a pre-existing environment; through action and reconstruction they help produce the Symvironment that subsequently constrains and evaluates them.

These meanings are intended to operate together.

Covolution therefore names not merely co-evolution between interacting entities, but a recursive process in which coupling, computation, retention, prediction, and reconstruction jointly reshape the space of future possibilities.

The use of “co-” is thus a deliberate semantic construction rather than a claim of strict linguistic derivation.
